Bangladesh (বাংলাদেশ) is the Eastern neighbour of India. I got a chance to see the city of Dhaka which is the capital and the largest city of Bangladesh.

The red brick built building was made by the earstwhile British Raj as the Parliament for British Bengal Province in 1905. Later, it was handed over to the Oxford of the East- University of Dhaka. The hall is now used as exam hall for the Faculty of Science. while the rest of the building holds different departments. Being in the heart of one of the biggest University campuses in the South Asia and with its beautiful architechture and landscaping, it attracts many to visit.

Shahid Minar - A symbol of Bengali nationalism, this monument was built to commemorate the martyrs of the historic Language movement of 1952. Thousands of people with floral wreaths and bouquet gather on 21 February every year to pay respect in a solemn atmosphere. In 1999 UNESCO declared 21st February - the Language Movement Day as the International Mother Language Day. The monument, Central Shaheed Minar (Dhaka, Bangladesh), reminds of the heroic sons of the nation who sacrificed their lives to establish Bangla (Bengali) as one of the main state languages.

Shadhinotar Shongram
The sculpture 'Swadhinata Sangram' is the embodiment of the consciousness and struggle of Bangalees. Eminent sculptor Shamim Sikder erected this grand sculpture. It is situated on the turn of the Fuller Road, between Jagannath Hall and SM Hall. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the sculpture on 10th March, 1999. Shamim Sikder built the first, and one of the largest, sculpture gardens in the country. Holding the National flag on the top, the huge statue shows faces of several historical persons. The artisan has also created one hundred and three small sculptures around the altar of liberation memorial sculpture. Images of prominent persons and different scenes of Bangalee culture have been included in the garden. Four phases of history: 1952/69/71/75 have been represented including the history of the Liberation War from Pakistan and the Pakistani soldiers with India's help.
