Kuta District (Indonesian: Kecamatan Kuta) is administratively a district (Kecematan) and subdistrict/village (Kelurahan) in southern Bali, Indonesia. Although popularly Kuta is famous for its beach front.
A former fishing village, it was one of the first towns on Bali to see substantial tourist development, and as a
beach resort remains one of Indonesia's major tourist destinations. It is known internationally for its long
sandy beach, great waters, varied accommodation, many restaurants and bars, and many renowned surfers who visit from Australia. It is located not far from Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport. With a long, broad beach on the Indian Ocean, Kuta was originally discovered by tourists as a surfing mecca. It has long been a stop on the classic backpacking route in Asia. It can at times be quite chaotic & overcrowded however, the 5 Km long arcing white sand stretch of Kuta is still arguably the best beach front on Bali. The beach is partially clean although the vendors remain annoying and bugging. The long stretch of sand, is full of sunbathers and holiday makers. Most of the serious surfers have moved on to newer pastures, still one can find that there are tons of surfer around on Kuta beach.
