Mahsuri Binti Pandak Mayah - Mahsuri was a victim of a treachery and jealousy. She was sentenced to death in 1235. As she died, she laid a curse on the island "There shall be no peace and prosperity on this island for a period of seven generations". Quite surprisingly, Langkawi has developed and become a major tourist location after the lapse of this period. True or not is upto the believer.
Mahsuri Mausoleum. "In this compound lies the remains of the beautiful Mahsuri who is regarded as a martry and a symbol of purity. This site is where Mahsuri lived until her wrongful execution in 1819. No tombstone was put up after the execution. Malaysia's first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj had a tombstone made and placed on the grave when he was District Officer here in the early 1940s. This memorial was built at about the time when Mahsuri's curse of the seven generations elapsed and Langkawi was coincidentally beginning to prosper."
